In November of 1996 a Needs Assessment, prepared by The Worcester County Department of Social Services, determined a gap in emergency services for the citizens of Worcester County, especially since most Lower Shore charity funding was disbursed through regional organizations located in Salisbury. It was felt that a county-wide effort needed to be in place to provide a better safety net for local citizens with emergency needs.
In 1997, Worcester County G.O.L.D., Inc. (GOLD – Giving Other Lives Dignity) was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit to provide a safety net to meet emergency needs for residents of Worcester County, Maryland.
GOLD enhances the quality of life of local citizens for whom traditional means of well-being support is not fully available.
GOLD promotes dignity by providing financial assistance and items to meet basic needs for families in crisis, vulnerable adults, those who are homeless, and children in foster care.
